Founded in 2010 in Mumbai, The Sound Space is a music education and experiential platform dedicated to exploring the transformative power of sound and music. Established by sisters Kamakshi and Vishala Khurana, the organization was created with the vision of making music accessible, meaningful, and engaging for people of all ages.

The Sound Space offers a wide range of classes, workshops, and community-based programs rooted in both traditional and contemporary musical practices. Its approach emphasizes hands-on learning, creativity, and the role of sound in wellbeing, self-expression, and personal growth.

The Sound space on Stage
 

Sakhya 2025 was a moving celebration of music, inclusion, and community, held at the Royal Opera House Mumbai on 30 March 2025. The evening united 140+ young artists, mentors, and audiences through performances reflecting resilience, creativity, and shared journeys.

‘Jugalbandi’, The Sound Space’s annual showcase, celebrated the spirit of musical collaboration with 140+ students from across Mumbai. The event brought together Indian classical and contemporary music in a vibrant display of talent, dedication, and artistic expression.

Des was a cultural showcase that celebrated India’s diversity by exploring its rich traditions through music and performance. Presented as A Journey Through India during the 70 years of Independence, it highlighted the importance of art and culture in our way of life.

‘NAAD’ was a collaboration with ‘Talisman’ an A Capella group from Stanford University, who approached us to collaborate for a showcase we called ‘NAAD’ which was held at Shantivan Gardens.

Gurukul was a concept rooted in the Indian tradition where a Guru guides seekers from ignorance to wisdom, instilling values and inspiring inner transformation. It highlighted the enduring relevance of Gurukul values in keeping us connected to our cultural ethos in a fast-paced world.

Ragamala was a concert that brought to life the 16th–19th century miniature painting tradition through Indian classical music and Kathak dance. Literally meaning “Garland of Ragas,” it celebrated the rich amalgamation of art, poetry, and classical music from medieval India.

AAMAD was a grand musical performance presented by The Sound Space and Taufiq Qureshi on 19 February 2020 at the Nehru Centre Auditorium. The evening opened with maestro Taufiq Qureshi and his percussion ensemble, followed by rhythmic and melodic performances by students of The Sound Space.

DIVYA – An Ode to Bharat Ratna Lata Mangeshkar, presented by the students of The Sound Space, was held on March 18, 2023, at YB Chavan Auditorium. Featuring 100+ young performers from institutions across Mumbai, the concert was a resounding success, captivating audiences with heartfelt renditions of Lataji’s timeless music.
